A private graveside service for Mary Lou Majorie Smith will be Friday, November 19, 2021, at 1 pm, at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton County. Bro. Tommy Miller will be officiating. Mrs. Smith, 96, died November 14, 2021, at Me-Sun Rehab in Lawrenceville, GA.

Mary was a homemaker, wife, and mother. Her formative years were spent as a farm girl during some of America's most trying times of the Great Depression and World War II.   She navigated the geographies and cultures of the world as the wife of a Navy man in post-WWII through the mid-70s when the family settled back in the US. She saw the family through more than a dozen moves around the globe. Later after the passing of her husband she continued to love and care for her children and their expanding families and hosted family gatherings for many years. She was well-loved by many but at 96-years not many of her peers remain to celebrate her life and the shared experiences of nearly a century that saw extraordinary changes in America and around the world. She enjoyed many simple pleasures and pastimes from gardening to volunteering at the local hospital and church. Most of all she loved and cared for her family and was equally loved by them.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children Carl C. Smith Jr. (Carol) of Maryland, Terry C. Smith (Barbara) of California, Ronnie J. Smith (Nita) of Georgia, and Jeffery A. Smith (Cindy) of Virginia; 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Carrie and John Huddleston, her husband Carl C. Smith, and her siblings Victor Huddleston, Lucy Chesney, Lora Harris, Ernest Huddleston, Prentiss Huddleston, and Verna Mae Dorman.
