Joseph “Joe” Hugh McFaden, age 89, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on November 4, 2026, in Meridian, just three days shy of his 90th birthday.
Joe was born on November 7, 1936, in Slapout, Alabama, to Willie Hugh McFaden and Annie Laura Kelly McFaden, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama but after moving to Meridian, he fell in love with the city. It was also where he met the love of his life, Joann Philyaw. They married on February 3, 1962, and began their life together in Meridian, raising their two daughters.
A hardworking man of few words and a man of action, he wore many hats throughout his life. His varied careers included meat packing, automobile sales, and heating and air conditioning.
Outside of work, Joe was a proud member of the Masonic Fraternity and enjoyed the outdoors. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, barbecuing, remote-control airplanes and cars, drag racing, and riding motorcycles.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Joann Philyaw McFaden; his two daughters, Deborah McFaden Kenney and Sandra McFaden Carter; his five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, November 6th, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Highway 39 North, beginning at 2:00 P.M., with Bro. Gary Morris officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Joe’s honor to the charity of your choice.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor Joe’s life and memory and to serve his loving family during this time.
