Joseph Semmes Jr.

Funeral services for Joseph D. Semmes, Jr, will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 1:00 pm, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 11:30-12:30 at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-Downtown. Father Augustine Palimattam will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Mr. Joseph Damon Semmes, Jr, age 81, of Meridian, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 14, 2022. Joe was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and grew up in the Complete Community. He graduated from Meridian High School. He loved horse-back riding and fishing with family members, but his business and customers were always one of his biggest joys. He loved helping others.

He was a master electrician, licensed heating and air conditioning contractor, and member of local 917 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was the owner and operator of A-Lectric Service Company for 32 years.

He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years where he served three terms as Grand Knight.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lela Currie Semmes. His daughters, Carmel Semmes Crain (Greg), and Leslie Semmes Bass (Jason), both of Meridian, Debbie Semmes Curtis (Dickie), of Tupelo, and Shannon Semmes Gilbert (Adam), of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, brother-in-law, Lee Currie (Jackie) of Meridian, honorary family member, Derek Lasher of Meridian, grandchildren, Jason Griffith (Brandi), Capri Griffith Dunn, Cecilee Crain Alexander (William), Miranda Crain Dunn (Fred), Zach Crain, Matthew Curtis, Hunter Curtis (Anna Claire), Kennith Pearson, Tristen Bass, Hayden Delacroy, Sadie Gilbert, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amanda Semmes, sisters Mamie Semmes Bonner and Norma Faye Semmes Walters, daughter Angela Semmes Pearson, and granddaughter, Brandi Leigh Pearson.

His grandsons have the honor of being his pallbearers.
