Charles Robbins Sr.

August 3, 1933 — February 16, 2022

Reverend Charles Alfred Robbins, Sr., age 88 of DeKalb, Mississippi, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born on August 3, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama. A service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 10:30 am at Union Church, DeKalb, Mississippi, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is one-hour prior to the graveside service. Reverend James Ruffin, DeKalb First Baptist Church, will conduct the service.

Mr. Robbins was an Elder Minister for over 40 years in the United Methodist Church, serving at numerous churches throughout Mississippi. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Livingston State Teachers College and a Master’s Degree in English Education from Livingston University (The University of West Alabama). A strong believer in education, he taught English in the Kemper County Public School System, East Mississippi Junior College, and Livingston University. He was also a Korean War Veteran, serving as a B-29 Gunner in the United States Air Force.

A loving husband, father of three, grandfather “GrandCharles” of four grandchildren, great-grandfather of five, brother, and a friend to man. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.


Survivors include his three sons: Charles A. Robbins, Jr. (Gena), William Dennis Robbins, and Patrick Sean Robbins (Robin); 4 grandchildren: Patrick Robbins (Jessica), Creed Robbins, (Kaia), Kate Robbins (Brooke), and Angel Robbins; 5 great-grandchildren: True, Alaia, Liam, Bennett, and Forrest Robbins; brother: James Edward Robbins; two sisters: Beth (Robert) Carlin and Rachel (William O) Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ella JoAnn Jones Robbins, his father and mother, Charles Edward and Alma Bowden Robbins; and his brother, Robert William Robbins, III.

Pallbearers are Patrick Robbins, Creed Robbins, William O Jones, Michael Jones, Jason Jones, James Carlin, and Larry Gibson. Honorary Pallbearer is Guy Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests support of the Alzheimer's Association. Donations may be made at www.alz.org.
