William David "Dawg" Rosenbaum, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of William David “Dawg” Rosenbaum, Sr., 93, of Meridian. A devoted husband, loving father, and pillar of the community, he passed away peacefully at his home on July 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born to Cornelius “Dutch” and Ruth (Tatum) Rosenbaum on January 25, 1933, in Meridian. He was a natural athlete with a lifelong passion for sports. A diehard LSU fan, he proudly wore the #38 jersey while playing multiple positions for the LSU football team, including quarterback, punter, and running back. When a severe arm injury in high school temporarily sidelined his football career, he simply adapted. He taught himself to play tennis left-handed while his right arm healed. He ultimately excelled at the sport and managed to capture a state title in tennis that year in 1950, left-handed.

His adventurous spirit and love for the water led him to serve proudly and honorably in the United States Navy. On August 9, 1968, he married the love of his life, Joan Maire Simmons. Together, they raised three boys, building a home filled with patience, guidance, and unwavering love. His family remembers him not only as a great father and husband but also as an accomplished pilot who flew his loved ones across the country—most notably to cheer on his beloved LSU Tigers.

Deeply community-minded, he gave his time and energy to anyone in need. He was a massive supporter of Lamar School, dedicating both his physical labor and financial resources to their booster club. In his late 60s and early 70s, he spent his evenings providing security for his church’s children’s ministry, ensuring that the local youth had a safe place to learn and grow.

In his later years, he embraced life at a slower pace, finding simple joy in watching the sky and taking quiet pride in naming every bird and plane that passed. Some of his happiest moments came each autumn, surrounded by his wife and family as he cheered on his beloved LSU Tigers. He leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, resilience, and joy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius “Dutch” and Ruth Rosenbaum; his oldest brother and his wife, Cornelius “Neil” and Lela Rosenbaum; his younger brother, Perry Rosenbaum; along with several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Joan Maire Rosenbaum; his sons, David Rosenbaum (Robin), Daniel Rosenbaum, Drew Rosenbaum (Shannon); his brother, Fletcher “Buddy” Rosenbaum (Addie); his sister-in-law, Kaye Rosenbaum; his beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Tatum, Joseph, and Jordan; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation for David will be held on Monday, July 27th beginning at 11:00 AM and continuing until the service time at 1:00 PM at Central Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the family plot at Magnolia Cemetery.

To honor his love of animals and community, the family asks for donations to be made in David’s honor to the Roadside Rescue, the Lamar School Foundation, or to a favorite charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
