Obituary

Services for Susan Jane Smith will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, 12:00 p.m. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-DeKalb. Interment will follow at Mamie’s Chapel Cemetery.

Ms. Smith, 77, of DeKalb, passed away August 13, 2026, at her residence.

Jane graduated from Matty Hersee Nursing school and worked as a public health nurse for many years. After retirement she worked with Weight Watchers as a counselor. She had many hobbies from cooking, baking, sewing, and she loved to make dolls. She was a self-proclaimed social butterfly, Ms. Jane never met a stranger, she loved people. She loved her community and stayed involved by being a member of Civitan International, Homemaker's club, Red Hat Society, she also volunteered as a poll worker for local elections. Her faith was strong; she was a dedicated member of The Linked Church in Shuqualak, MS. She lived a life of service to others.

She is survived by her son, Paul Steven “Steve” Pogue; granddaughter, Shelbie Pogue Tran (Vincent); grandson, Nicholas Paul Pogue (Lauren); and two great grandsons, Sorin and Aizen.

She is preceded in death by her son, Daniel Mark Pogue, M.D.; parents, John and Helen Jenkins Burkes; and brother, Jimmy Wayne Burkes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to service at the funeral home.
