July 11, 1944 — September 3, 2020

Sammye Ruth Waddell Ward

Ms. Ward, a native of Kemper County, passed quietly in her sleep Wednesday morning, September 3, 2020. She was born on July 11, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi and grew up in DeKalb, Mississippi where her parents owned the local café and upholstery shop. She began working in the insurance field when her youngest child started first grade in 1975. She worked for the F. W. Williams Company, which later became U.S.F. & G. While working at U.S.F.&G., she completed all courses to become a Commercial Underwriter. This was her dream job and she loved it. She also loved the rapport she had with all her co-workers.

Ms. Ward is preceded in death by her parents, Herschell Waddell and Lannie Flora Creekmore Waddell, and ex-husband Charles Dean “Butch” Ward. She is survived by her brother, Ted Waddell (Daphne); three children, Teresa Ward Stephens (Mark), Lisa Ward Coursey (Tim) and Chuck Ward (Becky); seven grandchildren, Jacob Richardson (Jasmine), Cody Ward (Kalee), Amanda Robbins (Gabe), Samantha Coursey Raynor, Cassandra Ward, Nicholas Ward (Jessica Lloyd) and Victoria Coursey. She also is leaving behind three great-grandsons; Riley Raynor, Calvin Robbins, and Kaplan Ward; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Pine Crest Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Bro. Gene May will be officiating. Stephens Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
