Ruth Amanda Johnson Ethridge of Meridian, passed away peacefully in the evening hours of Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Poplar Springs Nursing Home.
She was born to Joe and Edna (Kinard Smith) Johnson in the Pine Springs Community, on April 12, 1932. Growing up, she attended school at Center Hill School and would go on to become a teacher herself. Ruth taught school for 36 years in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia. She educated her pupils in English, typing and also in sports. While living in New Orleans, she was a proud member of the Iris Mardi Gras Krewe.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackie T. Ethridge; brother David Thead; and brother-in-law, George Marshall.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Marshall; sister-in-law, Jeannie Thead; niece and nephew, Laura and Martin; and first cousins, Kendall (Ann) Kinard, Carol Kinard Graham, and Wilma Kinard Pierce. Ruth also leaves behind many other special relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 5-7 P.M. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, located at 7774 HWY 39 North, Meridian, Mississippi 39305.
The funeral service for Ruth will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, beginning at 10 A.M. in the chapel at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, with Bro. Wayne Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Eddy Spears, Ike Ethridge, Tyler Wood, Mark McPail, Roger Jones, Wesley Spears, and Dane Ethridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ruth’s honor to Collinsville Methodist Church at P.O. Box 85, Collinsville, MS 39325 or to a charity and/or organization of your choice.
