Richard L. “Pete” Magee was born October 8, 1944, in Tylertown, MS and passed away Monday, May 4, 2026, at the age of 81.
Pete packed a lot of life into 81 years, and he had a story for most of it. Post high school, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi, becoming a lifelong fan and attending football games as long as his health allowed. He then joined the National Guard, serving as military police and an ambulance driver. In his youth, he had a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that he loved and took on many adventures. His primary career started when he went to work at Nabisco as a sales representative, lovingly referred to as the “cookie man”. With his time at Nabisco, he made many lifelong friends and acquaintances and loved every minute of it. During this time, he met and married the woman who would complete him, Lola. Post retirement from Nabisco, Mr. Charles Stephens recruited him to join the staff at Stephens Funeral Home (Webb & Stephens), where he loyally served as a funeral assistant until his passing. Pete will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving stepfather and grandfather, and true friend.
He is survived by his stepson, Jeffery Haire; daughter-in-law, Mitzi Haire; grandchildren, Caleb, Cohen, and Cylee Haire; sister, Wilma Rehage (Fred); and brother, Joe Magee (Sherry); numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Lola Magee; as well as his mother, Hazel Magee, who gave her all for her children.
Respecting his wishes, there will be a simple graveside service for remaining family.
As a lover of all sweet things, we encourage everyone to have a piece of chocolate, some ice cream, or a cookie in memory of Pete, especially the fudge covered Oreos, as they were his favorite.
