Richard Arlen Berryhill

Richard Arlen Berryhill, 77 of Decatur, MS, passed away March 9, 2008. Richard was born on April 14, 1930 in Seminole, OK to Alton and Ada Berryhill. After graduating from Russell High School in Russell, Kansas in 1948, he attended the University of Kansas until enlisting in the Air Force. He served in the United States Air Force as a radio operator form 1951-1955 and received an honorable discharge. He was wed to his wife Agatha on August 21, 1953. Following his discharge form the Air Force, he completed both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geology at the University of Oklahoma. He returned to college in 1955 and completed his course requirements for a M.S. degree in Geography at the University of Southern Mississippi. Richard spent most of his adult life employed as a petroleum geologist in Louisiana and Mississippi. He lived in Gautier, MS until 2005 and was employed by Bullard Homes as a Real Estate agent and as an adjunct instructor in Geography at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College from 1991-2005. He relocated to Decatur, MS following Hurricane Katrina where he was employed as an adjunct instructor in Geography at East Central Community College in Decatur, MS. He was a Member of the Knights of Columbus 1924 in Gautier, MS and was elected Grand Knight for 2004-2005. He transferred his membership to Meridian, KOC 802, when he relocated. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Agatha; 6 children, Teresa Malone and husband Larry of Hattiesburg, MS, Dolly Longley and husband Ross of Bradenton, FL, Toby Berryhill and wife Linda of Chattanooga, TN, Laurie Stetelman and husband Andrew Stetelman of Hattiesburg, MS; Jennifer Crosby and husband Mark of Petal, MS; and Lt. Col Richard Berryhill and wife Paula of Union, MS, a sister Bonnie Pratt of Wichita, KS, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Ada Berryhill, and 2 sisters, Rosanna Witt and Judith Lewis, and a niece Rebecca Witt. Funeral arrangements have been made through James F. Webb Funeral Home, 2514 7th St. Meridian, MS. Funeral is Thursday, March 13, 2008, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 2601 Davis St. Meridian, MS. Wake and Rosary is at 9:00am and Funeral Mass is 11:00am. Memorial Contributions can be made in his name to St. Patricks Catholic School 2601 Davis St. Meridian, MS 39302.
