Norma Elaine Rose

March 8, 1939 — September 8, 2025

Meridian

Norma Elaine Shamburger Rose, 86, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025. She was born on March 8, 1939, in Meridian, the beloved daughter of Cecil James Shamburger, Sr. and Lona Kay Smith Shamburger.

On August 31, 1962, Norma married the love of her life, Bobby J. “Buddy” Rose. Together they shared 62 wonderful years filled with devotion to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Norma worked for the Meridian Public School District for 25 years, most of that time serving in administration at West Hills Elementary. She loved her work and found joy in being there for the children and staff. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of Hawkins United Methodist Church before recently joining College Park Methodist Church. At Hawkins, she poured herself into service by teaching Sunday School, leading Vacation Bible School, and assisting with everything from bulletins to newsletters.

Norma will be remembered for her warm smile, infectious laugh, and the joy she brought into every room. She loved dancing, crocheting, bowling and celebrating the holidays with a beautifully decorated house. Above all, she dedicated her life to her family and faith—always giving her heart to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, friends, and church family.

She is survived by her children: Fonda Skelton (Kent), Lorna Copeland (Matthew), Kevin Rose, Nancy Valles, and daughter-in-love Nancy Rose. Affectionately known as “Nannie,” she cherished her grandchildren: Joshua Skelton, Capri Daugherty, Taylor Skelton, Abigail Smith, Lane Copeland, Lauren Skelton, Joey Rose, Jessica Schultz, Megan Anderson, Amber Mayo, and Danny Alford, along with her 15 great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Cecil James Shamburger, Jr.; her stepson, Cary Rose; and her husband, Bobby J. “Buddy” Rose; and beloved nephew, C. James "Buddy" Shamburger.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, 7774 Hwy 39 N., Meridian, MS. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m., with Dr. Scott Crenshaw and Bro. George Warner officiating, along with Honorary Pastor Bro. Kenneth Owen. Graveside service to follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Skelton, Taylor Skelton, Lane Copeland, Brett Daugherty, Jeremy Kidd, and Charlie Shamburger.
