Services for Mrs. Norma Borrell will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 with Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Augustine Palimattam officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Norma Rosales Borrell passed away January 25th at Oschner/Rush Foundation Hospital.

She was born in Grenada, Nicaragua, but moved to New Orleans at the age of 14 where she attended Holy Angels High School. After graduating high school, she studied comptometer and business. She worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. on Baronne St. in downtown New Orleans for 17 years, becoming the assistant supervisor in the collection department. She also attended Arthur Murray dance school, where she learned various ballroom dances, Hispanic folkloric dancing, ballet, and performed at the balls held for Mardi Gras Krewes.

She met Dr. Luis Borrell and on January 16, 1971, Joined in Holy Matrimony at lasted 55 years until her passing.

She was a faithful servant of the Lord by caring for his people in need. She worked as a volunteer in Love’s Kitchen. She was a member of the Catholic Church Charitable Organization, and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She distributed donated food and clothing to the needy, and provided transportation for appointments for people, some living in the projects. She did volunteer work at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, one being the librarian for many years. She served as a Eucharistic minister and provided Holy Communion for shut ins at the Church. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and many times volunteered to be the treasurer. She also provided support for the Hispanic Catholic Community by organizing and managing garage sales and food during festivals and much more.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Leandro Rosales; mother, Mrs. Nila Rosales (Martinez); sister, Elsa Bondio (Rosales); and brothers, Uriel, Noel, Fernando, and Dr. Leandro Rosales.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Luis V. Borrell; daughter, Tanya Borrell who blessed her with three grandchildren, Cameron, Alexis, and Jessica Boman; sister, Gilda Maestri (Rosales); and many nephews and nieces in Louisiana, North and South Carolina, New Mexico, Virginia, California, and Nicaragua.

Blessed are you the poor in spirit.
