Meridian

A Service and lunch reception will be held to remember Mary H. Scott, who died peacefully on Februrary 14, 2022. It will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 26th, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1116 23rd Avenue in Meridian, Mississippi.
The family invites guests to stay for the lunch reception where there will be a musical ensemble to honor Mary's love of music. There is no visitation prior to the serivce to encourage attendance at the lunch.
Mary was well loved for her bubbly generous personality and sense of humor. The family requests individuals bring stories of their memories with Mary, written legibly on paper to share. These stories will be gathered and published in a document to be made available online. Stories may also be sent to John@joyfulrumblings.net.
Mary was born in Meridian, June 27, 1935 to Judge James E. and Jeanette C. Harwell, and lived almost her entire life in Meridian. A Dusty in high school, she was active over the years in the Symphony League, and the Athena Literary Society, among other organizations. She was a faithful communicant at St. Pauls Episcopal Church. She retired from the Mississippi Valley Gas Company. She has lived the last five years in Aldersgate Retirement Community.
Her personality was in many ways similar to the sunrises she rose early most mornings to observe. She brought joy and energy to any room, and as she recently interjected to a visitor about to share a memory, "No telling what I did."
Mary is the widow of Davis Scott. She is survived by her sisters Ann Gay and spouse Paul, and Sara Hunt, and by her children, John and Joel Hamilton, David Scott and spouse Karon, Becky Scott, and Theresa Barrnett. Her living grandchildren are Allison, Maverick, Quenby, Zella, Angela, Gregory, Clifton, Paul, Ken, Deanna, Lee, Tyler, and Ryan. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Nelle Richarson, Jeanne Smith and James E. Harwell Jr., and children Clay Hamilton, Ann Ezell, Roy Scott and granddaughter Suzy.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, address above, and Methodist Senior Services, P.O. Box 1567, Tupelo, MS, 38802.
May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, rest in peace.
