Mary Nell Dulaney, age 86, ran into the arms of her Savior on July 17, 2025.
She was born in Meridian, Mississippi on December 13, 1938, to R.B. and Clara Joiner; she was the sixth of seven children. She attended Southside Elementary School, Kate Griffin Junior High School, and Meridian High School.
She married her sweetheart, Charles Dulaney, on November 23, 1955, after Wednesday-night church. Together, they built a family that included four children, who were the greatest joy of Nell’s life: Melissa (Macon Pickle) Hayden, Darlene (Robbie) Jones, Robert (Linda) Dulaney, and Randy (Karen) Dulaney. Her love extended to her nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Mamaw Nell,” and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Among her cherished relationships was the one she shared with her brother-in-law, Tommy Dulaney, who showed her remarkable kindness and genuine care for more than 70 years.
Nell was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Meridian, where she served on numerous committees over the years, contributing her time and spirit wholeheartedly. Her Sunday school class was a source of great joy and fellowship. Beyond her church, Nell treasured her weekly gatherings with the “Supper Club,” a cherished circle of friends and family who shared meals and provided steadfast love and support through life’s joys and sorrows.
Nell appreciated life’s simple pleasures, like a Coke and a hamburger, and enjoyed friendly competition in lively games of dominoes or Phase 10. She was a music enthusiast and adored live shows, including Elvis’s Meridian concert in May 1955. She loved a good movie; and somehow, even after countless viewings, Sweet Home Alabama still made her laugh out loud.
We will carry the sound of her laugh close in our hearts—it was loud, contagious, and a testament to her joyful approach to life.
