Mary Rebecca (Becky) Adkins, 86, of Meridian, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Becky was born to Robert H. and Gladys Mildred (Ezelle) Weeks on January 12, 1938, in Union, MS. Becky married the love of her life, Dorsey Lee Adkins, on January 15. 1955. Mrs. Adkins worked over 30 years for the Department of the Navy’s NEXCOM (Navy Exchange Service Command) Program where she was named Director of Uniform Services for the US Navy in 1985. Throughout her career, she traveled extensively to numerous countries and received several awards and commendations for her service. After many years of working in Washington DC, New York and Norfolk, Virginia, upon her retirement, she returned home to Meridian to be near her family and friends.
After her retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard and around her home where she loved to entertain family and friends. She was also well known for her love of all animals and had many special beloved dogs and cats through the years.
Becky is survived by her son, Robert H. Adkins (Wanda) of Collinsville and grandson, Chris Adkins of Meridian.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Retired USMC Dorsey Lee Adkins; her parents, Robert H. and Mildred (Ezelle) Weeks; six brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Harper’s Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Becky. Also, a very special thank you to her niece, Tess Turner, for all the wonderful love and care provided to her Aunt Becky over the last three plus years, along with her additional care givers, Linda Blakney, Christine McCallebb, Tomiko Colton, and Sandra Willis for all the special attention and care they provided.
Graveside Service for Becky will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, beginning at 1:00 pm at Union City Cemetery (Memorial Park Cemetery), with Dr. Rhett Payne officiating.
