Marilyn Beth Fawkes Johnson, 98, of Seminole, Florida, passed away January 29, 2022, at Largo Medical Center. Visitation will be held at Webb and Stephens Funeral Home North, 7774A Hwy 39 North, Meridian, MS 39305 on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens from 2:00 – 3:00pm.
Marilyne was born in Otho, Iowa to the late Dwight and Berdena Fawkes on October 12, 1923, the 4th of 8 children. She loved to sing and studied music at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. After college, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she worked at Wesley Hospital. She joined the Community of Christ where she met Roy Johnson. After they were married in March 1946, Mrs. Johnson remained active in choral music groups and singing at church. After moving to Jackson, Mississippi in 1951, and later to Meridian in 1963, her time was consumed with raising 5 children, but she continued singing with community choral groups and at church. Marilyne’s love of music was passed along to her children, encouraging each to study music in some form.
A devoted wife and mother, she dutifully took care of the daily needs of a large family. She was a quiet, introspective and soft-spoken person whose pleasant countenance endeared her to many.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers and husband of nearly 63 years, Roy Johnson.
She is survived by her children: Madeline Zawadski (Jerry), Joyce Johnson, Michael Johnson (Vicki), Beth Shanks and Dwight “Andy” Johnson (Elayne); 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) in Marilyne’s name.
