Obituary

Maria Elisabeth Durr was born on December 19, 1938 in Mainz, Germany, to her parents, Wilhelm and Katharina Landgraf. Maria moved to America in 1961, where she called home until she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on March 2, 2026.

Maria was a military wife and enjoyed her time alongside her beloved husband, George. She followed with him everywhere he went and even taught Conversational German classes to soldiers who were to be stationed in Germany while they were overseas. She also helped sponsor Army families who were moving to Germany.

Maria loved her family dearly and would always volunteer for her children’s activities including Cub Scouts, Brownies, cheerleading, swimming and softball. She loved her children so much that she even volunteered her time as a school nurse. Maria and George owned and operated a successful business. For Health’s Sake, in Jackson for over 13 years. They lived in Clinton until 2022 and moved to Meridian to where they now call home. Before moving to Meridian, Maria was active in a bowling league and loved to garden and be outside. There was nothing she loved more than her tribe of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Katharina Landgraph, her son Thomas D. Durr and her nephew, Jay Covington.

Maria is survived by her loving and caring husband, MAJ (retired) George W. Durr II Meridian, MS; brother, Dieter Landgraph of Ober-Saulheim, Germany; daughters, Tina Scott of Clinton, MS and Caroline Irvine (Tim) of Meridian, MS; granddaughters, Christina Coleman (Fred) and Haley Bolton both of Clinton, MS; great-grandchildren, Maria Wilson, Preston Coleman, Paydon Coleman, Pearson Coleman, Richard Coleman of Clinton, MS; Sister in law, Susan Covington (John) of Greensboro, NC; nephews, Paul Covington and Robert Covington of Greensboro, NC.
