Chunky

Mrs. Margaret Cook Gressett, age 99, passed away on July 22, 2026, in Union, Mississippi.

A lifelong resident of the Chunky area, Margaret dedicated her life to her family, her home, her church, and her community. She was a longtime and faithful member of Chunky Baptist Church, where she formed many lasting friendships over the years and remained a familiar and cherished presence within the congregation.

Margaret was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family and creating a warm and loving home. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and working word puzzles. She continued to keep her mind active and remarkably sharp throughout her life right up until the very end.

Margaret was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was known for her strength, wisdom, devotion, and steady presence. Her life reflected the love she gave so freely to those around her, and she leaves behind a legacy rooted in family, faith, and quiet perseverance.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Gressett and his wife, Terry, of Conehatta, Mississippi; Kenneth Gressett and his wife, Chestene, of Russell, Mississippi; and Ricky Gressett and his wife, Linda, of Brandon, Mississippi; her sister, Ann Cook Mercer; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel Nate “Nate” Cook and Zoie Lela Rasberry Cook; her husband, Lewis Edwin “Bunt” Gressett; her son, Jackie E. Gressett; and her brothers, Tommy R. Cook Sr., Morris Delane Cook, and Johnnie Joel Cook.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Chunky Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church. A graveside service and burial will follow at Chunky Cemetery.

Margaret’s family will forever treasure the time they shared with her throughout her long and meaningful life. They will remember her stories, her wisdom, her strength, and the countless acts of love and care that helped shape their family across generations. Her presence brought comfort and stability to those who knew her, and her influence will continue to be reflected in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Although her passing brings great sorrow, her family is grateful for the extraordinary gift of her ninety-nine years and for the many moments they were blessed to share with her. Her life was a blessing, her love was constant, and her absence will be felt for generations to come.

The staff at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes is deeply grateful for the opportunity to honor Mrs. Margaret’s memory and a life well-lived, and to serve her loving family during this difficult time.
