Obituary

A visitation for Lynda Carol Hedgpeth will be held on Thursday, August 6th, 2026, from 5-8 PM, at Webb and Stephens – North. A service will be held on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at 11 AM, with Rev. Mitchell McDonald officiating. A graveside service will follow at New Hope Church Cemetery located on 12286 Old Jackson Rd., Dekalb, MS 39328.

Lynda Carol Hedgpeth was born on December 9, 1951, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Lonnie Flay McKee and Emma Agnes Godwin McKee. She passed away peacefully at her home in Meridian on August 3, 2026, just eleven weeks after the passing of her soulmate and beloved husband, Ray.

Carol was best known as one of the McKee sisters at her family’s business, McKee’s Glass Service. Founded by her father in 1963, the business was a special part of her life, and she loved greeting customers with her warm smile and kind spirit. Throughout her career, she also worked in cosmetics and fine jewelry, where her genuine kindness and love for people made lasting impressions.

Above all, Carol treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, tending to her beautiful flowers, and watching the birds that gathered at her feeders. She expressed her love through cooking, and nothing made her happier than preparing meals for those she loved. Her cornbread and crackling bread became family favorites and will forever be remembered as a cherished part of gatherings around her table. Her faithful dog, Sophie, was also a constant companion and brought her immeasurable joy.

Carol shared nearly 44 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Lewis Ray Hedgpeth. Their love was steadfast and unwavering, and they truly did everything together. They cared for one another through every season of life and were a beautiful example of devotion and commitment.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis Ray Hedgpeth, and her parents, Lonnie Flay McKee and Emma Agnes Godwin McKee.

She is survived by her sons, Dustin “Dusty” Craig Hedgpeth (Brittney), Lance Ray Dunnigan, and Kevin Ray Hedgpeth; her sisters, Arlene May (Lewis), Kay Nelson (Bill), and Dedia Vinson (Wayne); her cherished grandchildren, Brittany Ellen Roberson (Hayden), Luke Hunter Hedgpeth (Lydia), Miranda Kay Dunnigan, Boston Parker Hedgpeth, and Mary Katherine Hedgpeth; five great-grandchildren; her faithful companion, Sophie; and a host of beloved cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family finds comfort in knowing that Carol was ready to be reunited with her beloved Ray. Though she will be deeply missed, they rejoice in the promise that they are together again, and they are grateful for the love, kindness, and countless memories she leaves behind.
