Services for Lucille Bernice Roberts Walters will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-North with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church in Kemper County.

Anytime we called Mom these last few years she was quick to say somewhere in the conversation, “when my feet hit the floor every morning, I say thank you Lord for another day.”

But Saturday, July 26 her feet didn’t hit the floor.

Instead they entered the steps of heaven. When she opened her eyes she saw what the Lord has for her for eternity. “Well done good and faithful servant! Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

In her 95 years, our mom carried many names … Lucille, Lulu, Lucy, Mom, Mother, Mamma and Grandma would always get her attention. Her family and friends were precious to her and she wanted to be a part of all of their lives. She didn’t want to miss a thing!

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 3, 1930, she was proud of her Yankee heritage but happily converted to be a true Southerner when she met the love of her life, Jim Walters in 1951.

You could say she had the best of two lives – first as a loving wife for 50 Years. As a military wife, she followed Jim wherever his US Navy career took him. She worked at the Naval Air Station in Meridian first in the data processing department (Key-punch) and then as a secretary at the VT9 squadron. After Jim passed her second life began. For the past 20+ years, she joined the Singing Saints and went on many trips with them by bus and on cruises with some of her dearest friends.

Lucille loved her church as she loved her family and was a fierce protector of both. She would do anything for anybody. One of her favorite sayings when her children brought home an unexpected guest was, “we can always add another potato to the pot!” In addition to singing she enjoyed playing the piano for her own pleasure and watching the Game Channel! She was always up for a game of any kind and her great grandchildren will remember her for that.

She loved the beach and the mountains, ice cream, lobster and JEWELRY – in no particular order. She would tell you her greatest accomplishment was raising six children. Whenever she met someone new she always led off by telling them, “I have six children…”

Lucille is survived by … her six children: Susan James (Wayne), Thomas “Red” Walters (Barbara), David Walters, Raymond Walters (Debi), Nancy Thompson (Terry) and Jeffrey Walters; her 11 grandchildren Brooke Gibson (Chad), Tony James, Keyla Spinks, Jamie Walters (Kristi), David Walters, Shawn Schoppert, Jeremy Walters (Erin), Ashley Prieto (Glen), Christopher Walters and Molly Walters; her 10 great grandchildren: Logan and Lawson Gibson, Emma and Ella Spinks, Heather, Kourtnie, Austin and Avery Kate Walters, Gauge Walters and Miles Walters; and her one great-great grandchild, Emorie Hope Walters along with many special relatives and friends.

She was Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Roy Walters, and her parents, Austin and Hazel Roberts.

Donations can be made to the Special Olympics of Mississippi and to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital oncology department.

We would also like to thank the nurses & staff at Wisteria Gardens, St. Dominics Hospital, Gentiva Hospice and to the staff at Chateau Pines Assisted Living in Brandon for their love and compassion to mom. She felt at home there and was loved by all!

Pallbearers will be Jamie Walters, Jeremy Walters, Chris Walters, Logan Gibson, Austin Walters, Shawn Schoppert, Lawson Gibson, and Miles Walters. Honorary pallbearers are Tony James and Gauge Walters.
