Joseph Caskey

November 23, 1934 — July 10, 2020

Joseph Patrick “Joe Pat” Caskey went to meet his heavenly Father on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the age of 85. Joe Pat was born at home on November 23, 1934 to Alice Daly Caskey and Robert Newton Caskey in Meridian, Mississippi. He graduated from St. Aloysius Academy and received his degree in accounting from MSU in 1957. His love of Meridian and its memories and people would be constant throughout his life. His career with the General Accounting Office took him to New Orleans for the next forty years. He found the Crescent City to be exciting and full of history and interesting people. He loved to host visitors and show them around. He retired from the General Accounting Office as an Auditor after 33 years of federal service. His keen ability to analyze problems made him a meticulous and thorough investigator. In his job, Joe Pat was able to pursue his love of travel and even traveled to the Panama Canal Zone. Joe Pat was a man known for his generosity and warm regard towards everyone he met, but especially to his family. Because of the amount of nieces and nephews he had, Joe Pat was affectionately known as “Uncle Joe” to family and friends alike. He was everyone’s “Uncle Joe”.

He moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi in 1999 and eventually resided with his nephew, Charles, and wife, Pat, who with their four children and 8 grandchildren, surrounded Uncle Joe with an energetic life that kept him entertained. He was an avid storyteller and reporter of daily facts and news accounts. He was able to recall detailed versions of history he had lived through and heard about from his many friends and associates. Uncle Joe was always up to date with the weather forecast and he was especially attuned to the threat of Hurricane season. In his final years, Joe Pat could usually be found watching true to life television shows or reading the newspaper and many periodicals to which he subscribed with his beloved border collie, Bonnie, nearby. Joe Pat was a devout Roman Catholic and regularly attended mass at both St. Richard and St. Francis of Assisi.

Joe Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Alice Daly and Robert Newton, brothers, Robert Caskey, Sr. and William Caskey, and nephew David Caskey. He is survived by his sister in law, Velma Caskey and nieces and nephews, Robert Caskey, Jr., Martin Franklin Caskey, Charles Caskey, Mae Rehm, James Alfred Caskey, William Caskey, Jr., Paul Daly Caskey, John Patrick Caskey, Alice Ann Caskey Maiersperger and many great nieces and nephews who will miss him tremendously.
