Mr. John Benard “Ben” Mattox, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, after 97 years on earth. There will be a graveside service Friday morning at 10am at Shiloh Cemetery. Friends are invited to come by their house on Highway 493 Friday morning to pay their respects. Webb & Stephens – Dekalb is handling his arrangements.
Mr. Mattox was a WWII veteran, having served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Chikaskia (A054). He was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans – WD Cameron Chapter. He loved to hunt, fish, woodworking, and spending time with family and friends on the farm. He retired from South Central Bell in 1979. He was a member of Bethel Southern Methodist Church.
Ben is survived by his wife of 74 years, Martha; his children Benny Mattox (Cindy), Don Mattox (Jo), and Jeff Mattox (Stephanie); grandchildren Jason Mattox, Sara Mattox, T.J. Mattox, Stephen Mattox, Michael Mattox, and Sarah Thrower; great grandchildren Thomas Mattox, Sage Mattox, Carleigh Mattox, Camden Mattox, Jaxson Mattox, Matthew Mattox, Matilyn Mattox, Macie Mattox, and Hampton Mattox; sisters Genell Tibbetts, and Bobbie Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Phillip “Pete” Mattox and Iona Elizabeth “Polly” Mattox, sisters Wyvonne Mattox, Ruth Mattox, and Mary Shell, along with a brother Malcolm Mattox.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Gideons, Downs Syndrome, or your favorite charity.
