Joann Hulett Dobbins

Joann Hulett Dobbins of Meridian, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, February 9, 2024 at Queen City Nursing Center.

She was born to Alexander Wirt Hulett and Leta Mason Hulett on May 19, 1935 in Meridian, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Meridian High School and the University of Alabama. She was married to her best friend and love of her life, Thomas Kimbell Dobbins, for 67 years.

Joann was very active in the Meridian community all of her life. She was a long-time member of The Fortnightly Club, The Town and Country Garden Club, a Lifetime member of The Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, and many other clubs and organizations. She loved to cook, entertain, and work in her flower gardens. She authored the cookbook, Pineapple Gold, A Collection of Recipes. She also loved the theater, the arts, and attended many productions at The Meridian Little Theater, The Riley Center, and The MAEX. She was an owner of Hulett Furniture Company and F.A. Hulett and Son Wholesale Furniture. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Meridian. She will be remembered for being a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a great friend, and of course, a great cook.

Mrs. Dobbins is preceded in death by her parents; and her son Thomas Kimbell Dobbins Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Kimbell Dobbins; daughters, Marileta Dobbins Bloodworth (Lowell) and Alexa Dobbins-Garrett (Scott); grandchildren, Christopher Lowell Bloodworth, Thomas Kimbell Dobbins III (Taylor Cumberland, fiancé), Alexandra Danielle Self, and Elizabeth Hulett Self; and brother, Fred H. Hulett.

Visitation for Joann will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024, starting at 12:00 p.m. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-North with a graveside service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Rhett G. Payne officiating.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Quality Hospice Care and Queen City Nursing Center for the compassion and care you gave to Mrs. Dobbins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to the T. K. Dobbins Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fun at Meridian Community College.
