Grace Montreal Pearson 4-11-1943 passed on to eternal life 4-20.2026. Grace was a loving wife, steadfast mother, and delighted grandparent and great grandparent. She taught us to love God and put Him first, faith was important to her. Through her example of faith and baptism she led her children to relationships with God. Known for incredible persistence she never backed down from a challenge. Along with Jerry she built a small business and a loving home. Through her example those in her home learned the value of discipline and hard work. Outside the home she was known for keeping her word and being a great friend.
Montie to friends, Monk to family, and Nana to later generations. Grace had an unquenchable spirit teaching herself to type for a job during some hard times. To prove she could she once put on Jerry’s linesman equipment and climbed their power pole. Not to be out done by her creative children she took art classes and won 1st prize at the Meridian Community College art show with a modernist painting. If she set her mind to it, it was accomplished. She bragged about the time she was kissed by Mel Tillis. She loved decorating for holidays and kept a spotless home like no other!
Grace had a love for plants and a prosperous green thumb. She loved collectibles, especially many beautiful peacocks. These few words can’t capture the quality and character of a life so very well lived with every challenge met and conquered. Perhaps her beloved husband summed up Montie best, “she was strong willed, a good woman with a good heart.”
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry Pearson; children, Angelic McDaniel, Shirley Milner (Paul), and Phillip McDaniel; grandchildren, Shona Theron, Lauren Doctor, Elizabeth McDaniel, Hannah Romero, Sarah Schlegel, Emmalyn Milner, and Patrick McDaniel; great grandchildren, Chole Battles, Luca Schlegel, and Violet Schlegel; and siblings, Darlene Coleman and Jay Hawkins.
She is preceded in death by her son, Bernard S. Martin; parents, George Steven and Claudie May Cooley Hawkins; and sister, Jenell Hawkins.
A visitation will be held an hour prior to service at the funeral home.
