Obituary

Funeral Services for Gerald Pogue will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, with Webb Stephens Funeral Home North (Hwy 39) in charge. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM, with graveside to follow at Gumlog Cemetery, Bailey, MS. Bro Ron Kitchens will be officiating.

Gerald was born July 3rd, 1943, to Mary Elsie Ballard Pogue and Alfred T Pogue in Lauderdale County. He graduated from Long Creek High School and EMJC at Scooba. He and a friend came back for extra credits, planning to go on to Mississippi State. His cousin, Patricia, introduced him to Shine Oden on Valentine's Day 1964. He married the love of his life on November 27, 1964 - after deer hunting until dark. They were married 61 years and 3 months before he went on to his heavenly home.

Growing up he helped with the youth group at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church on Hwy 45 South when Bro Riley Burton was the pastor.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, teaching his daughter, Jamie, to shoot, hunt, and fish at an early age. He dearly loved sharing his knowledge of turkey hunting with anyone interested to learn. He would take them under his wing and help them hone their skills, especially his friend, Steve Westbrook and grandson, Eli Garvin.

He loved horses, roping, and riding bulls in his younger years. He passed that love of horses to his daughter, Jamie. He spent many hours in the arena working with her and her horses. He volunteered with the 4H Horse Club, enjoying his time with the youth. It gave him great pleasure to see their accomplishments.

He retired from Borden’s Milk Company and Lauderdale County Farm Supply.

He is survived by his wife “Shine” Ora L Oden Pogue, daughter Jamie Lynn Ainsworth (Tommy), grandsons Eli Garvin, Travis Ainsworth, and Wyatt Ainsworth. He is also survived by his sisters: Norma Lee, Dian Shirley, and Virginia “Ginger” Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is also survived by his “adopted” children: Lynn Keeton Puckett, Mike Miller, Randy Benson, Michelle Maske, Jerry Keeton, and Tommy Matthews. He also dearly loved his “adopted” grands: Savanna Maske, Shadda Claire Bentley, Carly Bess Williams, and Wesley Williams.

Preceding him in death were his parents; in laws Mona Mae and Thad Oden, brother-in-law Fred Lee, brother-in-law Thomas Anderson, sister-in-law Jean Powe, and nephew Sonny Powe.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Hall, Mike Miller, Harry Puckett, Jerry Keeton, RG Keeton Jr, Erick Shirley, Greg Kinard, Bruce Kinard, Bill Benson, and Ronnie Shirley.

The staff of Webb and Stephens Funeral Home-North is grateful for the opportunity to serve Gerald's family in this difficult time.
