Meridian

George Elliott Rogers of Meridian, Mississippi passed away peacefully at his home on December 29th, 2023.

George was born to George Thomas and Annie Lou (Barnhill) Rogers on April 9th, 1940, in Louisville, Mississippi.  After graduating from Suqualena High School, George enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two terms.  After completing his service, he became a firefighter at Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi.  He was a hard worker with a work ethic instilled in him by his humble upbringing as the second youngest of 12 on a farm.  Once he retired from civil service, and unable to remain idle, he became Hospital Services Manager at United Blood Services in Meridian, Mississippi.  After his retirement from United Blood Services, he embarked on yet another career as security guard at the Meridian Mississippi Army National Guard.

He spent his adult life in careers that involved service to others.  His generosity of spirit, his kindness and compassion, and his ability to love deeply and to show his love unconditionally will be terribly missed and lovingly remembered.

George is survived by his wife of 66 years, his beloved “Hon”, Patsy (Ward) Rogers, His daughters, Susan (Kevin) Ponds and Jeanie (Rusty) Kastla; grandchildren, Kevin (Leslie) Ponds, Jr., Sarah (Brett) Glover, Emily Walsh, Lucy Kastla and Chelsea (Rob) Adair;  great-grandchildren, Maddie Walsh, Ellie and Ben Glover, Ramona and Oscar Ponds, Ariana and Michael Adair.  He is also survived by his sister, Ginger (Rod) Ezelle and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, George Elliott Rogers, Jr.; his parents, George Thomas and Annie Lou Rogers; his brothers, Duane, Johnny and Roy; his sisters, Bernice, Evelyn, Ruth, Ruby, Lois, Willa and Margie; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a heart-felt thank you to the team at Gentiva Hospice for their care and compassion to George and his family over the past few months.
