Evelyn E. Jenkins

    Evelyn E. Jenkins, 98, of Little Rock, Mississippi, passed away peacefully from this world on the afternoon of July 2, 2024, at Ochsner Laird Hospital in Union, Mississippi.

     Evelyn was born to Joseph White “Jodie” and Ava (Wansley) Smith on August 25, 1925, at home in Newton County. In 1946, she married the love of her life, “Junior”, and together, they raised their four children in Little Rock. After Junior’s retirement, they began to grow their vegetable garden together. Her children recall that she was an excellent country cook, and fondly remember her famous banana pudding. She will be remembered as being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. On Tuesday, Evelyn shed her damaged earthly body, and stepped into the waiting arms of Jesus, rejoicingly reunited with her husband and children. 

     Evelyn is survived by her son, Craig Jenkins (Jacqueline); her daughter, Patricia “Pat” Morgan; a legacy of ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; along with several adored nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 66 years, Horace “Junior” Jenkins; son, Joey Jenkins; daughter, Regina Davis; brother, Rev. Raymond Smith; sisters, Joree Reynolds, Maureen Chaney, and Roberta Drew; and her son-in-love, Buster Morgan.

     Visitation for Evelyn will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 10-11am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Union, located at 205 North Street in Union. Funeral service will follow beginning at 11am with Rev. Gene Higginbotham officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Little Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
