Funeral services for Eunice Read Simmons will be today at 10 am at James F. Webb chapel with her nephew, Rev. Fred Read, Jr., and her granddaughter, Rev. Nancy Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Vicksburg at Greenacres Park.

Eunice Read Simmons, of Florence, Alabama, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Florence Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 17, 1913, in Jasper County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Michael Edward Read and Mary Eliza Pugh Read.

Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women and a member of the United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Meridian, she was a teacher in the independence Mississippi and then worked as secretary for the National Park Service in Vicksburg. She loved to travel, visiting Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, and Europe. Reading, cooking, and gardening were other favorite hobbies.
