Cecil “Pete” Nathan Murphy and Dorothy “Dot” Sue Murphy of Meridian, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, within less than an hour of each other, at Diversicare of Quitman.
Cecil was born to James Albert “JA” and Annie B. (Cody) Murphy on December 15, 1936, in Lauderdale County. Before retiring, he worked at Motor Supply for about 30 years as a counter salesman and later as a traveling salesman. His passion was his family, his lakes and Bennie, his beloved dog.
Dorothy was born to Robert L. and Jessie Missouri (Hicks) Breedlove on February 18, 1935, in Neshoba County. Dorothy wore many hats throughout her life, from becoming a published author, retiring from Peavey Electronics, to substitute teaching, but the most rewarding being mom to her and her husband’s combined children.
Cecil and Dorothy were married on April 3, 1964. Together, they raised their children, instilling in them strong work ethics and values. Dorothy was always a great supporter and encourager of their children, and always cheering at games, even when she had to sit on the visitor’s side.
Cecil and Dorothy are survived by their sons, Kenneth Franklin Singleton, Jonathan D. Singleton (Debra Z.), Guy Nathan Murphy (Julie), and Kenneth Van Murphy (Theresa); their daughter, Susan D. Singleton Atkinson (Donnie); Dorothy’s brothers, James P. Breedlove (Linda) and Robert L. “Bobby” Breedlove (Beth); Cecil’s brother, Wallace Murphy; a legacy of seven grandchildren and eight great grands; along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Murphy and Robert L. & Jessie Missouri Breedlove; son, Randal Craig Murphy; Cecil’s sisters, Martha Murphy and Sybil Collins; Cecil’s brothers, James Albert “Jim” Murphy, Jr and Bobby Wayne Murphy; along with several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
