Services for Carolyn Jones will be held Monday, March 16th, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church. Reverend Allan Singletary will officiate. Music will be provided by Sabrina Williams.
Carolyn was born in Meridian, MS on July 23, 1930, to George and Beulah Askew.
Carolyn attended Oakland Heights Elementary, Kate Griffin Junior High, and Meridian High School. In 1951, she married the love of her life Jack Jones. They had three children, Andy, Amos, and Carrie.
She was a devoted housewife and stay-at-home mother. As a young adult, she began teaching swimming lessons and lifesaving to thousands of children and adults. When Jefferson Davis Academy opened its doors, in 1965, she was their first bus driver and later worked in the lunchroom until her last child graduated. She also was a lifeguard at the Moose Lodge Swimming Pool for many years.
Carolyn was a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was forever proud of her Southern Heritage.
After Jack's death in 2001 she worked as a volunteer at Anderson's hospital until 2019.
The greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were her Angel Babies. Mamee was the most special name she was called.
She is survived by her son Andy and his wife Jennifer, and her daughter Carrie and her husband Lynn Latham; Grandchildren, Amy McDill (Dennis), William Hodges (Jessica), Rebecca Jones, and Sally Madison (Josh). Great grandchildren Eli, Emily, and Jack Hodges, Ava and Georgia Clarke, Connor and Alyssa McDill, and Charlotte Lyon; Her bonus great grandchildren, Troa and Hayden Madison, and Braden and Brooks Massey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jones, her son Amos Jones, her parents, George and Beulah Askew, her nephew Luther “Jess” Askew, and her brother George Askew.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, William, Dennis and Josh. Great Grandsons Eli, Connor, and Braden.
In lieu of flowers memorial can be sent to Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church and The ALS Association.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Trend Health and Rehab for the loving care that Carolyn received from everyone for the last two years.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 until the time of the service. A burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
