Funeral Services for Billy Ray Laird will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Gene Higginbotham, Bro. Roger Laird, and Bro. Harold Laird officiating the services.
Billy Ray Laird, 87, gained his heavenly home at his earthly residence on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Billy Ray Laird was born on February 9, 1938, to parents Roscoe Ray Laird and Connie Cobb Laird. He was a member and deacon of Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. He married the love and light of his life, Mary Winstead Laird, on September 24, 1959, and had three wonderful children. He served in the Army National Guard from November 2, 1958 – October 31, 1985. He was a member of the Beulah Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department from 1988 – 2007, receiving the Fire Fighter of the Year 2000 in appreciation of his hard work, dedication, and many years of service. Throughout the years, he also worked at H.A. Knight Butane, MDOT, and Delco Remy (1977 – 1998), where he retired. During his retirement years, he spent his mornings with his beloved coffee club at Chesney’s Grocery (Nelda’s) and then he spent his afternoons on the four-wheeler, tractor, lawn mower, or working in his yard.
Mr. Laird is survived by his daughters, Margaret Mott and Rita Murphy (and her husband Bryan Murphy); his son, Kevin Laird (and his wife Peggy Laird); granddaughter, Emily Mott; sisters, Carolyn Freeman and Ann Turman; nieces, Deborah Sheehan and Gwen Turman; and nephew Steve Freeman.
Mr. Laird was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Winstead Laird; parents, Roscoe (Doc) Laird, Connie Laird Tisdale and Walter Henry (Dub) Tisdale; two grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Donald Freeman and William Turman; and nephew, Bryan Turman.
Pallbearers will be Junior Laird, Quitman Jones, Woody Chaney, Robert Smith, Jimmy Wyatt, Andy Rowzee, and Josh Caldwell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth White, Danny Champion, Lamar Bradley, Red McMahan, members of the Beulah Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department, and Detachment 1, 134th Engineer Company of the Mississippi Army National Guard.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Union is grateful for the opportunity to honor Billy’s life and memory and to serve his loving family during this time.
