Alice Ware

Funeral services for Alice Ledbetter Ware will be Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Stephens Funeral Home in Meridian, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Bro. Kenneth Owen will be officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Mrs. Ware, 95, died Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Poplar Springs Nursing Center.

Mrs. Ware was born on January 9, 1924, in Birmingham, AL to Mitchell Porter Ledbetter and Alice Wilson Ledbetter. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1946 and married Charles Pierce Ware of Atlanta, GA on June 5, 1948. She had resided in Meridian since 1959 and was a longtime member of Highland United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as Church Secretary and Treasurer for over a decade. She supported many causes over her life, but her favorite charity was the Wesley House Community Center. She loved cooking, family get-togethers, and collecting angels.

Mrs. Ware was preceded in death by her parents Mitchell and Alice Ledbetter; her husband Charles P. Ware; and a son Michael Ware.

She is survived by her children David Ware of Meridian, MS, Scott Ware (Elea) of San Francisco, CA, Douglas Ware (Amy) of Thompson Station, TN, Virginia May (Jerry) of Collinsville, MS, and Clay Ware of Blue Ridge, GA; a daughter-in-law Kathrena Ware; 12 Grandchildren and numerous Great- Grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staffs of Aldersgate Retirement Community, Poplar Springs Nursing Center, and Quality Hospice Care for their caring, dedicated and professional care of Mrs. Ware during her final years.
